Yerevan Cascade

The Yerevan Cascade (Armenian: Գանական) is a grand staircase in Yerevan, the capital of Armenia. It connects the city's central plain and the neighboring monument. Designed by architects Jim Torosyan, Aslan Mkhitaryan, and Sargis Gurzadyan, the construction of the structure began in 1972 and was completed in 1980.

In the Cascade, a pair of escalators are located under the exterior steps, which run the entire length of the complex. In addition to the steps, the exterior of the Cascade includes several levels, on which fountains and statues are located. The stairs allow pedestrians to see central Yerevan and Mount Ararat.

Construction began in 1971, during the Soviet period. The first phase was completed in 1980. Further development of the building took place between 2002 and 2009, when in the early 2000s the complex was transferred to American businessman of Armenian origin Gerard Gapesjian and he underwent complete renovation work.
